As we approach the 2027 general elections, the conversation about the future of Laikipia County is becoming more urgent. For too long, we have relied on traditional politics to solve modern, complex problems. I believe it is time for a transition toward technological innovation, academic excellence, and economic empowerment. My name is Paul Gakungu Mihango, and I am offering myself to serve as your next Senator. My journey is not just one of political ambition, but a lifelong commitment to the people of Laikipia—a commitment rooted in hard work, excellence, and a proven track record of solving real-world problems.
A Foundation of Academic Excellence in Laikipia
My story begins right here in our beautiful county. In 2004, I had the honor of emerging as the top student in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in Laikipia County. Scoring an A Plain from the prestigious Mary Mother of Grace Boys Secondary School was more than just a personal achievement; it was a testament to what the children of Laikipia County can achieve when given the right environment.
This academic milestone opened doors for me at the University of Nairobi, where I enrolled to study Electrical Engineering. This rigorous background instilled in me a disciplined, analytical approach to problem-solving—a mindset I intend to bring to the Senate to ensure effective oversight of our county resources.
From Engineering to Innovation: A Career in Technology
While my foundation was in Electrical Engineering, I quickly realized that the fastest way to transform lives in the 21st century is through Information and Communication Technology (ICT). I pivoted my career to become a Software Engineer, focusing on developing digital solutions that address the day-to-day challenges of our people.
I am not coming to you with just empty promises. I am coming with a portfolio of nationally recognized innovations that are already changing lives:
- FarnTech App: A dedicated marketplace for our farmers. In Laikipia, agriculture is our backbone. FarnTech eliminates middlemen, allowing our farmers to get the best prices for their produce directly.
- Wakili Online App: Access to justice should not be a luxury. This app makes it easy for ordinary citizens to access legal services online, bridging the gap between the law and the person in the village.
- Kazi App: This platform connects handymen—plumbers, electricians, and masons—with clients. It is about digitizing the gig economy and putting money into the pockets of our youth.
- Fuzu Training College: I am particularly proud of founding this institution. It is the first-ever TVET college in Kenya to offer full remote digital literacy skills courses, ensuring our youth are globally competitive from the comfort of their homes.
Why Paul Gakungu Mihango for Senate?
The role of a Senator is three-fold: Legislation, Oversight, and Representation. 1. Oversight with Precision: My background as an engineer and software developer means I look at data and systems. I will ensure that every shilling allocated to Laikipia County is tracked and utilized for its intended purpose. 2. Legislating for the Future: We need laws that support the digital economy. I will champion bills that lower the cost of doing business for SMEs and provide incentives for tech-driven agriculture. 3. True Representation: I understand the struggle of a student in Rumuruti, the challenge of a farmer in Ng’arua, and the aspirations of a young person in Nanyuki. I have lived these experiences.
A Vision for a Digital and Prosperous Laikipia
Laikipia does not need more of the same. We need a leader who understands where the world is going. By integrating technology into our governance and economy, we can create jobs, improve security, and ensure our county becomes a hub for innovation in East Africa.
I am Paul Gakungu Mihango. I am a son of this soil, a product of our schools, and a worker for our future. Together, let us make Laikipia 2027 the year of transformation.
